Your Home Business: Turning Pennies into Dollars

Henry Ford taught us that to simplify the manufacture of
automobiles, that the best way to do so was to install the
assembly line. That one change revolutionized the auto
manufacturing industry permitting the industry to build cars at
a cost whereas the average person could afford to buy one.

The lesson we should take from this is that having the ability
to improve the process of getting the job quicker and cheaper,
without compromising the quality of the job being done, will
help catapult the person who simplified the process to the top
of his/her field.

Pennies saved in your home business can turn into dollars at the
end of the day, and dollars can quickly multiply into hundreds
or thousands of dollars over time.

Doubt me if you will, but let me ask you a question. Do you
think a saving of two fifths of a penny could make any real
difference in the profit margin of a home business? Of course
the right answer is “it depends on how many transactions are
done in a year, utilizing the savings of the two fifths of one
penny.”

You only have to think back a couple of decades to really
appreciate this question. Do you remember the nut that lived and
died in a Las Vegas hotel room? You know the one who was a
billionaire, and was so worried about germs that he died of
starvation? If you guessed Howard Hughes (1905-76), pat yourself
on the back.

Now Howard did not make all of his money on his two fifths of
one penny. He did however make a ton of money from his two
fifths of one penny. It seems Howard owned a can manufacturing
company. And one day, Howard’s team figured out how they could
make one minor change in the design of their food can to reduce
the amount of tin necessary to make a single can.

As the story goes — if my memory serves me correctly — the
reduction in tin usage equaled a saving of two fifths of one
penny per can. Howard — being the really smart businessman
that he was — decided that he would not be so greedy as to
keep all of the savings for himself. What Mr. Hughes did do was
to keep half of the savings for himself, and give the other half
to his customers. The incredible thing about Mr. Hughes decision
is that by saving his customers an extra one fifths of one cent
per can, he managed to take more market share away from his
competition — netting his company an additional and
substantial portion of the total market share in the canning
industry.

Let us return our thoughts to your home business. Have you ever
gotten the feeling of excitement — when you read something or
thought of something — that you could not wait to implement
this new idea? This could be one of those moments…

In every home business, there are certain processes that we do
over and again. Sometimes it may be possible to trim the time or
expense of a process which in turn will add pennies or dollars
to your bottom line. If it is a process that you do hundreds or
thousands of times per month, then your savings will multiply
into hundreds or thousands of dollars in monthly savings.

Imagine what running a home business was like BEFORE the
computer…

Before the personal computer, we had to hand type all letters
and invoices. Now, we can setup a letter or invoice that we send
out quite often, and we can save it in our word processor so
that when we need to use it again, we can print it quickly and
efficiently. There is no longer a need to type the document
again from scratch.

The computer has simplified our business communications and has
provided us the opportunity to reduce our costs of doing
business.

Think about all of the other processes that the computer has
enabled us to do for far less expense than what we could in the
past.

In this case, the computer is a tool that permits us to save
time and money.

So, my challenge to you is to begin examining the processes in
your own home business and look for ways in which you can save
yourself time and money. It is far better for you to contemplate
on this matter than it is for me to do so for you. Simply put,
you know your business better than anyone on the planet does.
Therefore, you are in a better position than anyone to find
those extra dollars that will decrease your costs and increase
your profits.

The extra pennies and dollars you could extract from your
business could spell the difference between success and failure
for your home business enterprise.

Getting The Best Web Hosting For Your Business

Friday, January 30th, 2009

After the dot.com bubble burst a few years back I really thought that the Internet craze was over. With sites folding faster than newbies at a Texas Hold ‘Em table it seemed like all those tech-crazed nerds would have to go out there and get real jobs like the rest us. Even the stock market seemed to lose interest in the Internet and the Nasdaq plunged. But, like the inevitable sunrise, the Internet just continued to grow and build momentum with each passing year. But I am no fool and it occurred to me that I either hop on board or risk the consequences of being left behind!

Although most of us are naturally intimidated by things we do not understand we all have the capacity to adapt and growand this is precisely what I did. I began reading through the websites and it hit me completelythis thing is going to be bigger than the invention of the car, television, or anything that has come before! To thrive in this new, big, and very bold world being created by the computer engineers and their counterparts I was going to have to create an e-business of my very own and do so soon! There are literally millions of pages added to the web every single day and I didn’t know how to add a single one!

Thankfully and very important to my survival in this new electronically-driven era, there are companies that cater to people just like me. I realized that I didn’t have to know what in the world things like html or java script were, I just needed the help of people who did! I found a place where, depending on my situation and needs, I could host a website of my own with all the tools and gadgets I would ever need to successfully operate my own e-business! With shopping cart integration, bandwidth based upon need and traffic flow, banners and logos to suit my needs, and even help with customizing my first few pages, this place had everything I could ever need!

I always knew that I wanted to own and operate my own business but I never dreamed I could do so using the Internet and working from my home. Now, I have access to every single person on the planet already connected to the Internet with thousands plugging in every day! To thrive, not just survive, in this Internet-driven world, it is absolutely critical that you are part of the game because otherwise it WILL pass you by!

Baseball And Boston Or Boston And Baseball

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Boston home of the brave and the Braves is baseball through and through and over and over. We can speak of records and proclaim this is the all time leader. Would you hazard a two pence wager on which team holds a whopping .804 winning percentage over a four year span?

We have heard rumors of the record exploits of the Chicago Cubs in the early days of baseball. There is also a history of Connie Mack and his legendary Athletics. Modern era baseball witnessed the Pinstripes of those D”’Yankees set the pace for what seemed to be an eternity.

From 1872-1875 Boston won 206 games and lost 50 for a sensational
.804 average. The average fan would not figure I added one (1) game on the winning total. You see it is so easy to embellish the truth just a little for who would know?

Harry Wright a British-born baseball leader and champion of class and professional integrity was hired by Boston in 1871. Finishing 2 games out of first place in 1871 saw to it that failure would not be the Boston Red Stockings stock in trade.

Wright brought players from Cincinnati and he also enticed some of the best young talent of baseball to come play for the Boston Red Stockings. Two 21 year old jam up players, Al Spalding a pitcher and Ross Barnes a sensational hitter, were brought to Boston from the Rockford club.

When you have a team of winners you can produce a .804 positive record. Young Al Spalding pitched in every one of the 1872
Boston’s games and compiled a 38-8 won lost record. Ross Barnes provided a .430 batting average.

From these auspicious beginnings the Red Stockings became the Braves and the Boston Braves became the Milwaukee Braves who became the Atlanta Braves.

Major Wiley B. Channell USMC (retired) at http://www.baseballfarming.com saying hello to Boston.

Good stock produces good offspring baseball, race horses or racing pigeons start with the best you will always have the best.

Be brave support the team of your choice you’ll win some you will lose some but the thrill of victory is worth it all.

Ski Trail Ratings: America vs. Europe

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Trail ratings can be a very interesting topic, and are often rather trivial. The most important thing to remember when considering trail ratings is that there is no board or organization which rates slopes – the ratings are done by the resorts themselves. What this means is that slopes are rated according to relative difficulty in comparison with the other slopes at that resort! So, a black diamond at one US resort could be a blue square at another. Despite this, once you have a feel for how a specific resort rates trails, trail ratings can be very useful.

European trail ratings differ from American trail ratings in a few ways. Here is an overview of both systems:

American Trail Ratings:
Green Circle – Beginner trails.
Blue Square – Intermediate trails, often varying changing between steeper parts and a short flat area to rest.
Black Diamond – Expert trails, often, but not always, groomed.
Double Black Diamond – For Experts Only, often narrow with obstacles, moguls, near-cliffs, etc.

European Trail Ratings:
Green – Learning and baby slopes.
Blue – Beginner trails.
Red – Intermediate trails, steeper than Blues, mostly groomed, sometimes not.
Black – Expert trails, steep, sometimes groomed, sometimes with moguls, has a large range: from a bit harder than a red up to steep icy slopes with looming moguls.

By keeping the European ratings in mind while, you can avoid standing at the top of a slope and wishing you had taken a vacation to Hawaii instead. On the other hand, you can only improve your skiing by pushing yourself to your limits…

Golf Swing Instruction – The Athletic Motion

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

There is one basic athletic motion which is used in all of athletics. The golf swing is golf’s version of this athletic motion. It is the same basic motion that is used to hit a tennis ball, throw a football, kick a soccer ball, or break a rack in pool.

To describe the athletic motion, let’s take a look at the baseball pitcher. Why the pitcher? You are familiar with the pitching motion and have probably thrown a ball or two yourself. The pitcher does what you as a golfer want to do; throw it fast, accurately and consistently. As a golfer you want to hit the ball long distances and down the middle with consistency.

So just how does the pitcher throw the ball? How do you throw a ball? It’s not complicated. Let’s take a look so we can apply these principles to the golf swing. After getting the sign from the catcher, the pitcher begins his wind-up by moving his body so that all of his weight is on his back foot, the one on the pitching rubber. By doing this, he has caused the arm to be flung away, in the direction opposite from where he will deliver the ball. When all the weight is on the back leg and the arm is still going away from the target, he reverses the direction of the body by pushing off his back foot. This causes his body to be pushed toward the target. The arm was still going away when the body changed directions. The arm only changes directions when it can go no further back and is pulled swiftly toward the target by the forward motion of the body. This allows the arm to function with maximum effectiveness, speed, and accuracy. The arm is completely dependent on the body. The arm moves ONLY because the body moves it — not because the muscles of the arm itself made the arm move.

Have you ever seen a major league pitcher stand flat-footed and pitch the ball? Of course not. Any pitcher knows that he will have neither speed nor accuracy if he throws the ball flat-footed. To be effective he must use the big muscles (the legs and back) to move the body in order to create the speed and accuracy necessary for a good pitch.

I want you to try to throw the ball as far as you can, but with different rules. In order to be very powerful, you must hold the ball as tightly as possible, tightening all the muscles in your arm and shoulder. I want to see all the veins popping out; that way I know you are powerful and can throw it far. You know instinctively as you tighten up or quit moving the body that you cannot throw the ball any distance at all. In spite of this, I regularly see golfers holding the club so tightly and flexing those shoulder muscles, then wondering why they can’t hit the ball far. Great muscular effort doesn’t do the job.

For confirmation of this, tighten up your arms and take a practice swing. Listen for any noise the club makes. There’s not much air moving, is there? Now try again, this time with your arms completely relaxed. Listen for the loud noise of the club through the air. There is quite a difference, isn’t there?

In order to have the arms and shoulders move at their top possible speed and with maximum reliability, they must be kept relaxed. This is achieved when the legs, which are the body’s real source of strength, cause the arms and shoulders to move. Simply stated, the feet and legs cause the trunk of the body to move, which in turn causes the arms to move. All types of athletics are played with the feet moving the body. It all comes from the ground up, never from the top down.

For an observation, watch someone throw a bowling ball or throw a horseshoe to a post. The legs move the body, and the arm is completely dependent upon them. It’s the same in all of athletics, including golf. Because we are holding this long stick with the intention of hitting this little, innocent ball as hard as we can, this is contrary to our golf instincts. Common sense would tell us that in order to end that poor little ball’s life (without missing the ball, of course), we must use those powerful arms – and never look up? Isn’t that right? Not so!

There you have it — the process through which I developed the Concept Golf swing principles that will take your golf game to a new level. Because these ideas are simple, and because there are only five fundamentals, you might be tempted to not give them proper reverence. These principles have been tested and proven by golfers just like you. The new golfer, the professional, the high handicapper and the plus-one handicapper have all profited from these few simple ideas.

The Concept Golf swing principles are simple, logical, easy to understand, and easy to put into action. Everything else in the golf swing is a result of these few fundamentals — for all clubs, for all shots. They apply to the full swing, the short wedge and even the putter. As you understand and accept these ideas and put them to use, you will see great progress in your golf game.

It doesn’t have to be hard to discover the Par Golfer within you.

Steps In Designing A Website

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

Designing a quality, unique website requires the right combination of art, technology, and communication skills. It is vitally important to the success of any professional website project for the client to be actively involved in helping the designer identify and understand their true wants and needs. Web designers act as both creative coach and translator of ideas. Turning ideas into concepts, incorporating customer feedback, and prototyping rapidly creates a hands-on, evolutionary workflow for the customer, producing maximum results and a pleasant customer experience.

Step 1: Learn a little (or a lot) about the client’s business

Once a client has committed to building a new website, it’s time to dig in and learn a little about the business and the specific requirements. This can be done through a simple questionnaire for smaller sites, or may require many hours of consultation for larger ones. Some of the questions asked include: website goals and objectives, target audience, color and style preferences, examples of preferred websites, etc. If a client already has specific text and images that they would like to have included (maybe from an existing brochure or catalog) it is time to share the files and information with the designer, and the designer will in turn review it and share an objective opinion on the usefulness and quality of the customer supplied materials. If a domain name does not already exist for the site, this would be a good time to decide on a name and have it registered. The designer can help as little or as much as necessary in this area. Once all information has been received, work will commence immediately on the custom website design. Idea sharing and customer involvement is always welcomed and encouraged.

Step 2: Review design concepts and pick a direction

Normally, a customer will have initial design concepts to review within a few days. Some projects can take substantially longer to reach this initial stage, depending on the level of research and discovery being done for the customer in other related and possibly interdependent areas, such as designing a new corporate identity (logo and entire brand) or building an information systems solution into the website. The design and layout of the home page and first-level inner pages come first. This offers the customer a view of the possibilities and how different ideas work together at different levels. Then, one will be selected for further refinement. Existing works by the designer can often be used as a starting ground and modified to create a unique, yet familiar, look and feel. In the case that the customer is indecisive or doesn’t fall in love with one of the initial concepts, additional designs will be presented. After a design and layout concept has been chosen, revisions to that design and layout concept will be made until the customer is completely satisfied.

Step 3: Review revisions and ask for feedback

Once the design and layout has been approved and finalized, detailed content will be entered utilizing the selected design guidelines for consistency and beauty. Content can be supplied in almost any electronic format such as email, Word or even scanned text. In the case of larger consultative web projects, content can be created for the customer as part of an overall marketing and branding campaign. For images, content can be shot by the design team, supplied by the client, or in some cases purchased or custom created by the designer. There is also the option of choosing imagery from a gallery of quality royalty-free work at no additional cost. Just describe what is wanted, and the designer will pick the perfect images for the job. Or, if preferred, the client may choose the images themselves and the designer will certainly assist in the process a level with which the customer is comfortable. Customer supplied content can be supplied as soon as it is acquired – there’s no reason to wait until the web pages have been designed. In fact, often times the best design concepts are born of the content.

Step 4: Finalize your website.

All concepts and revisions can be viewed online and there is always an open channel of communication to the designer. Once the customer is completely satisfied with the finished website, high-quality website hosting is offered, or the website can be implemented at a third party host of the client’s choosing, as long as appropriate security access and necessary software tools are available.

Larry Page: Free White Space!

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Almost anything at this time and age is wireless. We have wireless communications, wireless networks, wireless connections to the Internet, and wireless telephones and such. Larry Page, President and co-founder of Google, wants to venture more into wireless technology.

There are several unused TV spectrum that could be tapped for wireless devices. Known as white space, this unused TV spectrum lying in the 700 MHz frequency only acts as a buffer between TV channels. Page went to Washington to discuss with the Federal Communications Commission the possibilities of freeing most of white space, which is perfect for wireless data transfers and transmissions between wireless devices.

Although some portions of white space have already been occupied, with Verizon using most of it, there are still some chunks of the spectrum that are left untouched. Page wants those untapped resources used. However, there are some organizations that are averse to the concept of freeing the spectrum for use of wireless devices, most notably television broadcasters. TV companies argue that wireless devices using white space will certainly cause interference in their broadcasts. Page thinks that the interference issue is exaggerated; the spectrum can be shared, he insists.

Whether the interference scare is overrated or not, Page clearly has a vision of things to come. This world is already in the wireless age. Why not develop it more?

Larry Page is profiled in Forbes magazine.

Renting Property in Liverpool

Liverpool City Centre has undergone much regeneration in recent years and has seen a large transformation. Not only has this happened in the commercial sector but also in the residential sector. There is a wide range of property available in Liverpool, now this includes ultra modern town centre flats for the new day executive ranging from 1 and 2 bedrooms to larger penthouse style flats. As well as this there are modernized traditional terraced houses, old terrace properties, fantastic family houses to executive detached properties. Depending on the location of Liverpool will reflect in the types of property that are available as well as the price of the property, there is a home to suite everybody in Liverpool and the surrounding areas.

Before you start your rental search the first thing to do is make a decision on your budget you have available either a monthly or weekly basis. Remember to take into consideration all of the bills which generally will be your responsibility, these will include council tax plus amenities including electricity, gas and water. Plus factor in other overheads you may have, for example a car or credit cards. Once your budget is fixed then you can begin your research. Don’t forget that you generally will require one months’ rent and a deposit equivalent to one months rent on the day of move in. This can vary and it would be advisable to ask the letting agent in advance as to what the charges are.

Doing the research

Before rushing into the centre to look into the letting agent shop windows make sure that you are prepared. Research is important in order that you get a good idea of what property you can get for your budget. The first place to start your research is to have a good look on the internet, if this is available to you. There are a number of ways to do this, by far and away the quickest method is to use one of the online property portals. These are internet sites that have multiple agents listing their property, this saves you time and you get to see a range of property made available by a number of letting agents.

What do the Property Portals offer to help your search?

There are a number of key services made available by residential letting property portals, the main ones are listed below.

Multiple Emailing Service

Email service to all agents advertised on the site, sending details of your requirements. The agent then contacts you with property details that may apply.

Property Specific Email Service

Email service to send directly to the letting agent your interest in a specific property advertised.

Website Click Throughs

Click through to the advertised letting agents own website.

A good example of a portal that offers these services is Rentright Residential Property Letting Portal – Liverpool Page from here you can perform any or all of the actions listed above.

Rentright is only one of the major property portals, if you do not find what you require here then you may find it on another.

Where do you go from here?

OK, so on recap, the budget is set, research has been performed on line and an idea of the type of property available in your budget has been gained. The next task you might want to perform is the ‘area’ research. Depending on your requirements of what you want will depend on what would be classed as a suitable area to live. For example you may want to live in Liverpool centre, near to the tube or train station or the local school. A similar process to your property research would be to do some internet checks a good site is UpMyStreet which offers a wide range of details on demographics, crime details, council details and much more.

Refining your list

Once you are happy with the research then, if you have already found a property/properties of interest on the internet then contact the letting agent and arrange a viewing. If not then you may consider visiting the letting agent website directly and registering your details with them or making a trip to the centre to visit the agents personally. Remember that it is also best to visit a property at different times of the day in order to get the overall picture of the area.

Some useful tips when you search

(A) Fix your budget (B) Research available property on the internet (C) Research the areas where you are interested in renting (D) Contact Letting Agents in Liverpool or surrounding area to arrange viewings (E) Re-Visit an area on different occasions

The Great World Cup Germany 2006

Monday, January 19th, 2009

The 2006 FIFA World Cup (officially titled 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany, sometimes referred to as the Football World Cup) finals are scheduled to take place in Germany between 9 June and 9 July 2006. Qualification for the tournament is now complete, with all 32 competing teams confirmed. The 2006 finals are the 18th to be contested.

A total of 12 German cities have been selected to host the World Cup final tournament. The stadium capacities shown are all seated capacities. Many of the stadiums have higher capacities for German domestic football matches as some of the seats are replaced with terraces.Starting from Germany 2006, the winner of the past World Cup had to qualify for the Finals. Only the host nation qualifies automatically from 2006 on.

In the qualification process for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, the six FIFA confederations were allocated a share of the 32 spots available on the basis of the strength of their teams. The final distribution was as follows:Europe – represented by UEFA : 51 teams competing for 13 places (Germany qualified automatically as host nation for a total of 14 places) ;Africa – 51 teams;South America -10 teams;Asia – 39 teams;North, Central American and Caribbean -34 teams;Oceania – 12 teams.

For the first time ever, the defending champion (Brazil) does not qualify automatically. The hosts (Germany) will retain their automatic spot. In 1934, the defending champions (Uruguay) declined to participate and the hosts (Italy) had to qualify, but in the tournaments between 1938 and 2002 (inclusive), the hosts and the defending champions had automatic berths.

The original distribution of places between the six confederations called for Oceania to be given one full spot in the final 32; however, this idea was seen as giving Australia a virtually certain place in the finals, being by far the strongest footballing nation in their region. This decision was reconsidered in June 2003 and the previous distribution of places between Oceania and South America was restored.

The main surprises in European qualification at World Cup Germany were the absences of 2002 third-place finishers Turkey (eliminated by Switzerland after a momentous playoff), 2004 European Champions Greece (eliminated by the Ukraine), and established sides Denmark (eliminated by the Ukraine as well), Russia (eliminated by Portugal), and Belgium (eliminated by Serbia-Montenegro and Spain). In Africa, 2002 quarter-finalists Senegal (eliminated by Togo) and established sides South Africa, Cameroon, and Nigeria (eliminated, respectively, by Ghana, C?te d’Ivoire, and Angola) unexpectedly missed the trip to the Finals. The other zones saw no major upsets. While representing Oceania, from the beginning of 2006 Australia is part of the Asian Confederation, and will represent Asia in following World Cups.

If teams are even on points at the end of group play, the tied teams will be ranked as follows:greater number of points obtained in matches between the tied teams, goal difference in matches between the tied teams, greater number of goals scored in matches between the tied teams, goal difference in all group matches, greater number of goals scored in all group matches,a play-off on neutral ground, with extra time and penalties if necessary (in qualifying),drawing of lots (at the final event). This is a change from the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where total goal differential was the first tiebreaker.

Thirty-two years after the last football World Cup in Germany, the 2006 FIFA World Cup will again take place in Germany. For the first time after the reunification of both German states, the entire world will look to the New Germany, situated at the heart of Europe.

World Cup Football i http://www.worldcupfootballi.com/ offers information about the soccer world cup.
